Practice Areas
Grímur Sigurðsson (b. 1977), Attorney to the Supreme Court of Iceland since 2008. Grímur is an experienced litigator. Through his work on large-scale cases related to collapsed financial institutions such as Kaupthing Bank, Grímur is one of the leading lawyers for bankruptcy and winding-up disputes. Appointed by courts as liquidator over numerous major bankruptcy estates, including Milestone Inc., Sigurðsson has also a multidisciplinary background in corporate law, acting as main legal counsel for sales of large-scale companies. Grímur Sigurðsson acted as a legal advisor during Brim‘s – one of Iceland’s main fishing companies – acquisition of a 34% share in HB Grandi hf., the country’s largest and only listed fishing corporation, as well as in the various transactions and disputes which arose following the transaction. The purchase was later deemed, by various analysts, to have been the transaction of the year in Iceland. In addition to acting as liquidator for big and small bankruptcies and pleading various substantive cases before the Icelandic courts, Grímur has been employed as a legal advisor to some of Iceland’s largest companies within commercial, corporate and M&A recently, for example the geothermal company HS Orka and Útgerðarfélag Reykjavíkur (formerly Brim hf.).
