Duncan is practice lead for shipping & transport and is recognised as a leading lawyer in this area. Working across the sector, and with a good understanding of the regulatory environment, he advises on both disputes and transactional work. He is known for his commitment to, and understanding of, the industry in Scotland and beyond, and for delivering advice that is responsive, practical and strategic. He is a member of a number of key industry bodies across the sector.
Acting for a national and international client base, Duncan handles claims of all types for leading P&I Clubs, marine and other insurers. He advises owners, operators and port authorities on a range of operational, regulatory and development issues, and is experienced in acting for banks, shipowners and shipbuilders in new builds, sale and purchase and charters. His experience spans the merchant fleet, ferries, tugs and workboats, oil and gas, renewable energy, fishing and aquaculture. He advises on logistics by both road and sea and has experience of major incidents in the rail sector and the claims arising from them. Duncan also has experience in the aviation sector, and has handled aircraft arrest, and fixed wing and rotor accidents.
