Carlos González-Bueno is an arbitrator and partner at González-Bueno SLP. He has extensive experience in international arbitration, acting both as counsel and arbitrator in proceedings before ICC, ICDR, CIAM-CIAR, CCM, CIMA, TAB, SNA-OSCE, and other institutions. He has been involved in commercial arbitration cases across Spain, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and the U.S. Carlos has handled disputes in sectors such as energy, construction, M&A, insurance, international sale of products, hospitality, sponsorship agreements, intellectual property, and many others. He has years of experience in both private and public practice in the field of intellectual property, advising and litigating complex matters.
Career
Carlos holds a Law Degree from Comillas Pontifical University (ICADE), Madrid, and has been a member of the Madrid Bar Association since 1992. Throughout his career, he has combined private practice with high-level public service positions.
He served as General Director of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and held key governmental roles, including Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Industry and Energy and Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Technology.
In academia, he has been a lecturer in Arbitration and Legal Argumentation at the Comillas Pontifical University (ICADE), Madrid between 2015 and 2022.

Publications
Carlos is the author and editor of significant works in the fields of international arbitration and intellectual property. He has published three editions of the "40 Under 40: International Arbitration" series (2018, 2021, and 2024), featuring diverse articles covering various aspects of international arbitration. He also coordinated the publication of "Comentarios a la Ley de Arbitraje," and “The Spanish Arbitration Act: A Commentary” both being comprehensive analysis of the Spanish Arbitration Law, in Spanish and English. Additionally, he is the author of numerous articles on arbitration and private international law.

Carlos has conducted arbitrations as sole arbitrator or as presiding arbitrator in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. He has also intervened in arbitrations conducted in English in which documents and witnesses testimonies in French and German were not translated.
