Aseem Chawla, Senior Advocate, has more than two decades of focussed experience in Taxation, including International Tax and litigation & representation practice, Corporate & Business Advisory, Exchange Control & Regulatory, Money Laundering, Transfer Pricing and white-collar legislation. He has advised large corporate houses on a variety of tax matters including cross border investment structuring. Aseem is also well regarded for Estate & Succession Planning, Inheritance & Family Governance & Succession, Family Offices, Trusts & Private Clients for national and international clients, high net-worth individuals & trustees, and financial institutions. He has consistently in the past represented clients in intricate tax litigation matters before various Appellate Forums.
Aseem has been earlier appointed, as Senior Standing Counsel of the Income Tax Department for representing matters for the Revenue before the Superior Courts and the other Judicial fora in Delhi since February, 2023 till November 2024.

Aseem Chawla, a Member of Bar Council of India & a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Recognizing his contribution to the field of Direct Taxation, Aseem has been conferred an Honorary Doctorate Award (HONORIS CAUSA) by Bharat Virtual University for Peace & Education recognized by the United Nations Organization, Geneva.
Aseem has served on several committees, Board(s) of large business houses and leading families & Charities, assisting them on the aspects of good governance, best practices, financial & legal oversight. Aseem has been nominated by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, as an Independent Director on the Board of Oriental Insurance Company Limited, one of the Largest State-Owned Insurance Companies.
He is a certificate holder from National Insurance Academy, Pune for participation in the Orientation Program for Independent Directors for General Insurance Companies in February 2020.
He is the Former Secretary of the Taxes Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) and is now nominated, as a member of its India Working Group (IWG). He is currently serving as the Vice-Chair of the South Asia/Oceana and India Committee, Section of International Law (ABA) and also stands appointed as Vice Chair of International Tax Committee & International Private Client Committee of the ABA.
Aseem is a Visiting Faculty with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on International Taxation & White-Collar Crimes. Recently, has been nominated as co-opted member of the International Affairs Committee of ICAI. Earlier, he served as co-opted member of the Direct Taxes Committee, Research Committee & the Committee on International Taxation of ICAI. Aseem is an Executive Committee member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) Bar Association, New Delhi. He is elected Vice President of Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF). He has been, in the past, the Co-Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Committee of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHD). He has been nominated, to the Cost Accounting Standards Board (CASB) of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. He is appointed as the Chairperson of National Taxation Committee of the Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC). He is the Former Regional President and currently the Mentor of Financial Services and Taxation Committee of IACC.
Aseem, in the past has been a member on the Board of Governors of a leading Business School, based in the National Capital Region. He, in an honorary capacity, acts as a Financial & Tax Advisor of a leading Pan India “Not for Profit” Organization, which has accomplished its Centenary Foundation Year (100th year of Establishment). Aseem’s name finds mention in “100 Legal Luminaries of India” published by Lexis Nexis. Aseem was featured in The Week magazine’s special coverage on Young Lawyers (a leading Indian current affairs publication) and has also been bestowed with the award of Young Achiever. He was earlier enlisted in the Law Business Research Publication, as one of the India’s 40 leading young lawyers under 45. Aseem has consistently been adjudged, over more than a decade now, as one of the leading legal experts in the Asia Pacific Region by various global analytics research and ranking firms.

Publications
Aseem has several authorships to his credit and his latest publication on Indian contemporary tax landscape & fiscal policy developments titled, “Play in the Joints: Tax Insights & The Play Continues” has received global encouragement from Judicial fora, leading lawyers, & academicians.
Another publication on the Indian contemporary tax landscape titled, “Finding a Straight Line Between Twists and Turns: Imperfect, yet Honest Reflections on the Indian Tax Landscape”, has also received encouragement from the leading international tax practitioners and Hon’ble Esteemed Members of the Judicial fora.
Aseem has also curated “Supreme Court on Company Law [Compendium of Cases] 1950-2021”, in three volumes, published by Bloomsbury comprising landmark Supreme Court judgments of seven decades from 1950 till 2021. This pedagogical combination of insight and structured understanding of the subject has received much praise from various academic, professional and the legal fraternity.
He is the lead contributory author of the International tax treatise, “A Global Analysis of Tax Treaty Disputes”, a seminal publication of Cambridge University Press Tax Law Series.
Aseem has contributed to numerous academic & professional journals and conferences, including CCH Wolters Kluwer’s Publication on “A Compendium of Advance Rulings on Income Tax” and has also contributed towards ICAI’s publication on “A Study on Drafting & Conveyance”. He is a contributory author of “Taxation of Crypto Assets” published by Kluwer Law International.
Aseem is the co-author with the International Bureau for Fiscal Documentation’s (IBFD) Global M&A Tax Research Platform. Aseem’s contribution has been acknowledged in the Kanga & Palkhivala’s Income Tax Commentary, 10th Edition, an acclaimed treatise on Indian Income Tax laws. Aseem has co-authored the Tax Disputes and Litigation Review 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th Editions published by Law Business Research Ltd. U.K., in association with the ABA Section of International Law.
He has contributed to the International Fiscal Association (IFA) Cahiers, 2013 (Annual IFA World Congress held in Copenhagen), as country reporter for India on “Exchange of Information”.
