Alexander Stock SC practises principally in the area of commercial litigation and arbitration. He is listed as a “leading silk” for commercial disputes in Hong Kong, in the 2021, 2022 and 2023 Editions of the Legal 500, Asia-Pacific. Recent editions describe him as a “calm advocate with excellent judgment, and quietly persuasive in court”; “unruffled in the face of difficult opposition”; working “very well as a team member … [and] extremely calm when under pressure”.
Alex’s commercial practice includes arbitration, banking, company law, insurance, professional negligence (auditors, solicitors, banks, brokers), and sale of goods. His regulatory experience extends to advising investment banks and others in relation to the Securities and Futures Ordinance, appearing before the Market Misconduct Tribunal, and cases involving the regulation and discipline of certified public accountants. Alex has acted for financial institutions on various cases regarding alleged mis-selling of investment products and derivative instruments, as well as unauthorised trading, letters of credit and issues arising from fraud claims. He has substantial experience of international arbitration, and challenges to arbitration awards before the Hong Kong courts.
Alex has also been instructed in numerous sets of judicial review proceedings, for both applicant and respondent, with an emphasis on town planning and matters relating to the Buildings Ordinance.
