Firm Overview
Beltzer Bangert & Gunnell LLP (“BBG”) was founded in May 2017. Since then, BBG has become the leading construction law firm in Colorado. Unlike general practice law firms, BBG focuses its entire practice on the construction industry. With twenty construction lawyers based in Denver, BBG has the largest construction practice in Colorado and consistently leverages its construction-law talent in jurisdictions throughout the United States.
Practice Areas
Construction Law and Real Estate Law
BBG is distinguished by its experience in the construction industry. Sixteen of BBG’s attorneys boast decades of operations, technical and management experience in the architecture, engineering and construction industries along with extensive legal experience focused on construction. BBG’s team includes five trained engineers, two of whom maintain their professional engineering licenses, a licensed architect, two former general contractors/developers, a former construction project manager, and seven attorneys with substantial general counsel, in-house real estate and construction law experience. BBG compensates associate attorneys in obtaining advanced graduate degrees in construction-related fields such as construction management or construction engineering.
BBG is also distinguished by its team approach to providing construction law services to its clients. BBG’s team approach is reinforced by the fact that BBG does not compensate partners based on client origination. All BBG clients are firm clients, not individual attorney clients. This allows BBG to build a team of diverse skillsets and to staff matters with the attorneys best fit for a given matter based on knowledge and experience.
The firm’s partners hale from large law firms that are highly ranked in real estate and construction law. Buck Beltzer (formerly with Holland & Hart), Henry Bangert (formerly with Sherman & Howard prior to PCL Construction); Bret Gunnell (formerly with Sherman & Howard), David Frommell (formerly with Sherman & Howard), Suzanne Wilson (formerly with Holme Roberts & Owen (n/k/a Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner) prior to Flatiron Construction), and Stephen Wichern (formerly with Faegre & Benson prior to RES Americas) all left Band 1 firms to join BBG.
Other partners and associates acquired extensive in-house legal experience at top construction firms. Henry Bangert was U.S. legal counsel for six years with PCL Construction Enterprises, Inc., Suzanne Wilson worked for 3 years with Flatiron, Stephen Wichern was senior counsel for 7 years with RES Americas, and Tim Reilly led the legal team for Saunders Construction on their way to becoming partners with BBG.
BBG’s clients include some of the largest and most sophisticated general contractors in the construction industry, who repeatedly retain BBG to represent them on high-profile matters throughout the United States. BBG represents 8 of the top-25 largest contractors in the United States as ranked by Engineering News-Record, 9 of the top-25 largest general contractors in Colorado/Wyoming as ranked by Engineering News-Record and 11 of the top-25 largest general contractors in Denver, Colorado as ranked by the Denver Business Journal.
