Lara Hammoud, Senior Legal Counsel, ADNOC - Independent Arbitrator
Lara Hammoud has been practicing international arbitration for two decades. She is qualified in France and has worked at the ICC International Court of Arbitration and practiced in the International Arbitration Group of Shearman & Sterling before joining the disputes team at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company as senior legal counsel. Lara acts as chair of tribunals, sole arbitrator or party-appointed arbitrator in construction and commercial arbitrations in both common and civil law jurisdictions under the rules of arbitration of UNCITRAL, DIAC, DIFC-LCIA, ADCCAC and ICC in arbitrations seated in Europe and the Middle East. Lara speaks Arabic, English, French and Italian and is the writer and editor of numerous articles and books relating to international arbitration. She also regularly appears as speaker in international conferences and arbitration workshops. Lara is also a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration.
Ziad Obeid, Managing Partner - Obeid & Partners
Managing Partner, Ziad Obeid is a dual-qualified lawyer with a civil engineering background and extensive cross-border experience gained through legal practice in Europe and the Middle East. Identified among the world’s foremost dispute resolution practitioners in GAR’s Thought Leaders 2021, Ziad has notable expertise in international arbitration and cross-border dispute resolution proceedings, including complex joint venture disputes. Ziad regularly acts as counsel, sole arbitrator, chairperson or co-arbitrator in multifaceted international arbitrations conducted in Arabic, French and English brought both ad hoc and under a variety of institutional rules and subject to a wide range of applicable laws from within the MENA region and beyond. Bryan Dayton, Partner - Obeid & Partners
Bryan is a partner at Obeid & Partners based in the firms' Dubai office. With over 15-years’ experience in international arbitration and litigation, he has represented clients across a wide-range of industries including construction, chemicals, power plants, steel, oil & gas, and agriculture. These cases were conducted under a variety of institutional rules such as the ICC, LCIA, DIAC, SIAC, and SCC. Bryan has substantial experience representing clients in the Middle East with extensive experience involving states and state-owned enterprises. Prior to moving to Dubai, Bryan was an experienced litigator representing clients before U.S. courts and administrative agencies, including the U.S. Supreme Court. Bryan has acted on many high profile joint ventures claims involving multiple international contractors in successfully settling their claims. Bryan holds a B.A. in economics and political science (2000) from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School (2004). He is the author of numerous publications, including recently a co-editor of Dealing with Delay and Disruption on Construction Projects published by Sweet & Maxwell in 2020 in which he co-authored three chapters on time-related claims.
Gerhardt Will, Senior Counsel - Obeid & Partners
Gerhardt Will, Counsel, is an English Barrister with extensive experience in large construction contracts and arbitrations, particularly in the fields of power infrastructure (nuclear, wind and biomass). Having first practiced as a Barrister in London, Gerhardt became one of the leading experts in the field of power infrastructure (nuclear, wind and biomass) legal matters. He has acted on the largest JVs / consortium in the nuclear and infrastructure industries. He managed one of the world’s largest construction arbitration disputes, and has conducted arbitration and ADR proceedings in jurisdictions as varied as Germany and Brazil. Prior to joining Obeid & Partners, Gerhardt practiced as General Counsel of Areva UK and General Group Counsel of Areva SA. Gerhardt holds a Master’s degree in Law degree from the University of Cambridge in England. He holds a diploma in Arbitration Law from the College of Law, London, and a Master of Arts from the University of Cape Town (English Literature).
Ollie Dimsdale, Research Manager - Chambers Global (ROW) Chambers and Partners
Research Manager - Chambers Global (ROW). Ollie has been with Chambers and Partners for several years, initially starting as a Researcher on Chambers Asia-Pacific before working his way up to Assistant Editor. In 2016 he became Deputy Editor of Chambers Global, with specific responsibilities for the Middle East, North Africa and Offshore Caribbean. He graduated from the University of Warwick with a BA in English & Theatre Studies (2006) and an MA in English Literature (2007). He also separately obtained an MLitt in Creative Writing from the University of St Andrews (2010).
