Stathis Potamitis, Managing Partner - POTAMITISVEKRIS

Stathis has a broadly based transactional practice. He has worked on legislative and regulatory issues of the capital and derivatives market, financing and banking issues, international arbitration and corporate transactions and restructurings, including the transfer of loan portfolios. As a member of the Hellenic Corporate Governance Council, he contributed to the Hellenic Corporate Governance Code and the drafting of best practices for unlisted and family enterprises. He has dealt with the insolvency framework and NPLs and recently led the team that drafted the new insolvency legislation. Stathis is an INSOL International Fellow, a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and a member of the International Insolvency Institute. He is a member of the expert group advising the European Commission on insolvency matters, among others the Restructuring and Second Chance Directive.

George Bersis, Co-Managing Partner - POTAMITISVEKRIS

George is a dedicated expert in the field of banking, capital markets and real estate. He has played a pivotal role in the recent development of the Greek banking sector, contributing to the redrafting of the HFSF law, which paved the way for the 2013 bank recapitalizations as well as participating in many of the mergers and acquisitions which consolidated the sector. His finance practice includes advising clients, mainly banks, on their entry into syndicated loans, bond loans and restructurings, including voluntary and Article 99 processes. He has considerable experience in tender offers, rights issues and merger and acquisition transactions, with a focus on listed companies and privatizations. George has a broad expertise in the area of Real Estate, advising on traditional asset acquisitions, as well as complex structuring and financings. He has acted in many of the landmark real estate transactions that took place during recent years. George is a lecturer in corporate governance at Piraeus University. He previously taught at Alba University and at the Athens Exchange Training Centre on securities and derivatives issues.

Alexios Papastavrou, Employment & Social Security Partner - POTAMITISVEKRIS

Alexios has a broad practice in the area of employment and social security law. He is specialised in advising his clients, mainly employers, on all types of individual and collective employer-employee relationships, including trade union relations, collective bargaining agreements and industrial action. Alexios has extensive experience in acting in business closures, mass dismissals, transfers of undertaking pursuant to mergers, acquisitions and privatisations and in litigation before the courts and industrial tribunals arising from social security and employment-related disputes. He has expertise in advising on all aspects of social security law, in particular on the regulatory framework in place. His client base is made up of multinational companies across a range of industries with a focus on finance, pharmaceuticals and consumer goods. Alexios has held various appointments in his field of specialisation, including Advisor to the National Chemical Weapons Department of the Ministry of Justice (2005-9) and Technical Representative of Greece at the European Council for the introduction of the International Treaty on Money Laundering (2004-6). He acted as President of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Centre for the Psychological Health and Therapy of the Child and Family (2001-5) and has been a Member of the Management Committee of the Centre for Political Research and Communication since 2001. He is a member of the European Employment Lawyers Association.

Aspasia Malliou, Tax Partner - POTAMITISVEKRIS

Aspasia is a lawyer, LL.M. and an economist, and has over 30 years of specialisation in advising on tax law and representing clients before the administrative courts and the Council of State. She has vast experience in advising on income, inheritance, donation and capital gains tax imposed on individuals and companies, the tax arising from a broad range of transactions and indirect taxation. She studied economics at the University of Athens, so she is business-minded. She has taken part in committees set up to examine tax legislation in the context of public consultations at the Ministry of the Economy and working groups at the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises for the improvement of the taxation system. Aspasia is secretary of the Greek Association of Tax Law and Fiscal Studies, in which capacity she has organised and participated in numerous seminars, lectures, conferences and working groups on the interpretation of tax legislation. Aspasia has taught courses on tax law at ALBA Graduate Business School, and taught seminars at the Ministry of Finance and the Athens Law Society on developments in tax. She has been widely published in newspapers and periodicals and conducts research for tax law publications. Aspasia is the editor and the director of the Tax Law Bulletin, a leading Greek tax publication.

Laurence Mussett, Research Manager - EMEA - Chambers and Partners

Laurence graduated from the University of Warwick in 2016 with a BA in History, followed by an MA in Modern History in 2017. He joined Chambers in January 2018 as part of the client team before moving to the Global team as a senior researcher.
