About

Provided by Watson Farley & Williams

WFW was the first international firm to open in Greece in 1984. In 2007 the firm added an Athens office, when Virginia Murray, Marisetta Marcopoulou and Maira Galani joined the firm to add their Greek-law project finance and M&A expertise, particularly in the energy sector.

WFW is a sector-focussed firm, which is well-known and highly regarded for its energy sector expertise, particularly in renewable energy. The WFW team in Athens has been closely involved in the Greek energy sector since it acted for the sponsors of the first energy project finance transaction in 1999, a EUR70 million five wind-farm loan for C. Rokas SA (now Rokas Iberdrola). Since then, the firm has either reviewed or been involved in part of almost all the major renewable energy portfolios in Greece, acting for developers, banks, equipment suppliers and potential or actual purchasers in a wide range of renewable technologies, from wind to photovoltaic, solar concentration, landfill gas and biomass. We also have significant conventional power experience, including CCGT.

We act for sponsors, borrowers and lenders in the energy sector and act on major multi-million euro transactions and projects, as well as on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances and shareholder issues for companies within the sector. Clients look to WFW’s experience to advise on difficult issues arising during due diligence exercises, particularly in relation to regulatory issues, land rights and corporate matters.
