Overview

Rajah & Tann remains the only South East Asian firm with a dedicated group of lawyers handling a substantial amount of trade work across the region. The team is the only one with qualified local lawyers across various countries, delivering timely and effective solutions. Our highly-qualified lawyers on the ground are able to speak the local language and duly-qualified to advise on the local law. We work as a team - different from many other firms where they work in partnership with local firms.

The range of work that the team handles is one to marvel at – from sanctions to export controls to anti-dumping and safeguards to trade agreements, to structuring trade flows, to managing trade investment disputes. With the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), the CPTPP and renewed interests in RCEP, the issues in trade in South East Asia requires much guidance and handholding. Trade issues have also become nuanced with the explosion of ecommerce. The team also has solid grounding on customs-related work, with particular strengths in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. The work that the team does covers Greater Asia as well, with Korea and China as key examples.

The team has also been active in trade work relating to issues arising from fresh regulatory requirements due to the COVID-19 situation, as well as aiding clients on navigating the trade scene amid a COVID-19 future.
