McDermott has a dedicated Chicago-based team of banking and finance lawyers, who advise lenders and borrowers on middle and upper-middle market transactions, lead on deals in the $20 million to $1 billion range. Our work falls into four main areas: asset-based lending; corporate finance; mezzanine and other subordinated lending; and borrower representations (split between private equity-related and corporate borrowers). Strong clientele of traditional banks, other financial services companies and lenders, private equity sponsors and other corporate borrowers.

Private equity is integral to our lending practice, building on the firm’s name as one of the top middle market private equity firms in the US. We advise a raft of private equity firms, mostly in the middle market, on their lending activities, and each year we welcome several new names to our client list.

While most Chicago finance practices represent either mainly lenders or mainly borrowers, we have a healthy lender/borrower clientele split, and our lawyers are cross-trained in both types of work.

McDermott has been recognized for many years as the market leader in Chicago and the United States in the healthcare industry, and, as a result, we frequently represent healthcare providers in finance transactions. The healthcare sector is highly regulated so we have a considerable advantage over other practices in that we are a “one stop shop” for healthcare legal issues.
