In 2020, Gray Plant Mooty and Lathrop Gage combined to form Lathrop GPM and boasts nearly 400 attorneys in 13 U.S. offices. The combination strengthens the established MN outfit, providing a deeper pool of resources offering clients more capacity and strategic counsel. The firm is a go-to for mid-market deals in the $50-300 million range, while also handling transactions surpassing $1 billion. The team is one of the largest in MN, with over 45 M&A and corporate lawyers.

Lathrop GPM represents over 150 franchise systems, and the corporate team regularly provides M&A support to the firm’s franchise clients. The team partners with Lathrop GPM’s healthcare group on transactional matters; advising providers on mergers, acquisitions, affiliations, and joint ventures. In part due to the recent merger, the firm’s finance and technology/IP practices have significantly bolstered, leading to an impressive roster of tech and finance businesses requiring M&A assistance.

The team plays a large role in providing commercial corporate advice. Supporting established companies with restructuring and daily governance, they also advise entrepreneurs and emerging/growth businesses, from inception to exits. The team assists recently acquired executive teams, often by Private Equity firms. The team has been active advising on matters pertaining to COVID-19, advising on the impact to current and upcoming M&A transactions and tangential counsel regarding PPE loans, employment and insurance policies.
