Kirkland & Ellis’ Technology & IP Transactions Practice is one of the oldest such practices in a full-service firm, having been an integral and continuous part of Kirkland & Ellis for nearly 40 years.
- Our practice focuses on business transactions driven by the creation, use, sale, or acquisition of intangible assets, technological assets, and attendant IP rights. Our representative matters include joint ventures, strategic alliances, licenses, outsourcing agreements, acquisitions and divestitures, collaboration/ development agreements, technology services agreements, and other commercial agreements driven by innovation or technological assets.
- Our practice works very closely with other core practice groups at the Firm – including the Corporate Practice, Restructuring Practice, and Tax Practice – on all technology and IP aspects of public and private corporate transactions, including M&A, spin-offs, divestitures, joint ventures, financings, and restructurings.
- Approximately half of our lawyers have degrees or professional backgrounds in technical areas.
- In addition to understanding law and technology, we are experienced and practical deal lawyers who understand how to structure, negotiate, and close complex transactions.
