Kennedys’ marine insurance practice comprises an experienced team with an established track record and reputation. We are a trusted adviser to the major insurers and reinsurers in the London and international markets, as well as ship owners, ship operators, P&I Clubs, terminal operators, traders, freight forwarders, and charterers.

We have decades of experience across all classes of business and represent clients in litigation and arbitration across multiple jurisdictions and in cross-jurisdictional disputes.

Lead by Graeme Baird, Shaan Burton, Chris Chatfield, Patrick Foss and Chris Zavos, Kennedys’ marine team  advise across the full spectrum of marine insurance matters including: hull and machinery, cargo and goods in transit, war and terrorism, yachts and pleasure craft, marine and excess liabilities, P&I, third party claims for property damage, financial loss and personal injury, shipbuilding disputes and subrogated recovery actions.

Recent work includes

  • Advising war risks insurers of the Mercer Street, an Israeli-managed tanker struck by what are believed to be Iranian suicide drones off the coast of Oman in 2021, resulting in fatalities.
  • We act for liability insurers (the “Clubs”), one of whom provided P&I liability insurance in respect of an ice-classed cruise liner which collided with a coast guard vessel in March 2020.
