The general crime team undertakes a wide range of work for private clients facing criminal investigation or trial. Its members are all experienced criminal lawyers with specialist skills in a range of areas.
Clients are drawn mainly from the entertainment industry, politics, high net worth families, financial service workers and other professions. An important aspect of its work is protecting clients’ reputation and privacy.
The team has expertise in the most complex and difficult criminal cases, and have skills in managing forensic investigation, particularly important in the cases we do in defending parents and health professionals accused of injuring infants in situations such as the notorious ‘baby-shaking’ prosecutions. It has a long standing reputation for the relentless pursuit of disclosure and leads the way in challenging the viability of fair trials where clients face historic allegations of sexual abuse.
The team undertakes a small number of high-profile publicly funded cases, and acts pro bono for a few select clients who have apparently suffered a miscarriage of justice.
We have also had many successes for clients facing less serious charges which can derail a client’s marriage, employment or social standing, either by diverting them from the criminal justice system altogether or by securing acquittals in the lower courts.
