About

Provided by Herbert Smith Freehills

We have unrivalled TMT sector expertise and extensive resources across the globe. We are able to service our clients’ needs from hubs in Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. Added to this we have a specific focus on emerging markets, including Africa, where we have acted for leading players such as Bharti Airtel, IHS, Etisalat and MTN.

We differentiate ourselves by offering the full range of technology, media and entertainment and telecoms advisory services including corporate, regulatory, commercial, competition, intellectual property, dispute resolution, finance and tax, rather than limiting the practice to a single niche area.

We believe that the combination of our full service global TMT expertise and deep experience and know-how in Africa enables us to provide a real value added service to clients doing business in Africa's emerging TMT sector which sets us apart from our competitors.

Recent deal highlights include advising Bharti Airtel on its US$10.7 billion acquisition of the 15 African mobile networks of Zain Africa, as well as on the sale of its operations in Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone to Orange SA; and IHS Holding on its acquisition of Helios Towers Nigeria (which consisted of over 1,200 telecommunications tower sites) from HTN Towers; as well as on its acquisition of 1,100 telecommunications towers in Rwanda and Zambia from Bharti Airtel.
