Overview
Our shipping team assists clients with matters spanning the commercial shipping spectrum, including the acquisition of new and second-hand tonnage, financing of acquisitions, technical and commercial management, maintenance (including conversion and repair), long term employment and demolition.
We represent shipowners, charterers, engineering consultants, private equity and other financial services companies, shipyards and insurers in all the major industry sectors, from small tugs and supply vessels to the largest and most technically advanced bulk, liquid and gas (LNG and LPG) carriers. For LNG projects, we bring together project development, construction, transportation and gas supply experience on behalf of developers, suppliers and shippers. We also have substantial experience in the construction and employment of passenger ferries, cruise ships and superyachts.
Our transactional and dispute resolution teams are particularly experienced in handling shipbuilding and conversion projects and disputes, including the resolution of claims relating to cost overruns, delays and technical shortcomings. Much of our work involves newbuilding projects in Europe and Northern Asia and the conversion of vessels in Southeast Asia.
Our shipping publications include “The Law of Shipbuilding Contracts” (Informa Law from Routledge, published 2020), and “Lexology Getting The Deal Through – Shipbuilding 2020: England and Wales” (Law Business Research).
