The Technology Practice Group, led by Ong Johnson and Lo Khai Yi, is widely recognised in Malaysia’s fintech, blockchain, and digital asset ecosystem for its strong regulatory and commercial capabilities. The team is regularly engaged to provide strategic guidance on complex, innovation-driven matters requiring deep understanding of evolving legal and technological frameworks.
The team has extensive experience in traditional fintech regulatory work, including advisory, compliance, licensing applications, and documentation across e-money, e-wallets, payment systems, remittance services, and moneylending. This enables end-to-end support for clients, from structuring and policy development to regulatory submissions and engagement with authorities.
Beyond conventional fintech, the team is heavily involved in emerging digital asset and blockchain matters, including digital asset exchanges, custody solutions, stablecoins, crypto payment models, tokenised deposits, and participation in regulatory sandbox initiatives. Their work also covers real-world asset tokenisation, DeFi structures, BNPL solutions, and related financial regulatory frameworks.
The team is known for combining legal expertise with practical technical understanding, enabling them to assist clients with white papers, consultation papers, and structured regulatory dialogues with Bank Negara Malaysia, the Securities Commission Malaysia, and the Labuan Financial Services Authority.
