GRSM’s California insurance group counsels insurers on issues arising both in California and across the nation arising out of policies affording coverage in the areas of property and casualty, including commercial and personal lines as well as directors and officers risks; life, health, and disability, including policies to which ERISA applies; and health care provider reimbursement disputes. The claims giving rise to these insurance disputes involve mass-torts, sexual abuse, fire including wildfires, construction, fraudulent claims, catastrophic injury, environmental, whether disability is present, premium financing and policy cancellation, and the extent of benefits due. The group has depth in trying coverage and bad faith cases as well as in handling appeals for those matters. The group has successfully resolved rescission and reformation cases. In addition, the group has handled a wide range of complex insurance class actions, including cases alleging improper sales and insurance claims handling practices, fraud, underinsurance first-party wildfire claims, and consumer protection claims against insurers. Insurers often seek out the group for its expertise in providing coverage opinions, advice, and monitoring to help resolve insurance disputes before litigation arises. Members of the group are located throughout California and are familiar with the many distinct issues presented by appearing in California’s numerous and varied state and federal courts.
