A set which has strong expertise across all levels of call, and which handles every type of criminal law case, including those of the most serious nature. Beyond general everyday crime it has specialism in extradition, terrorism cases and international crime and can boast the presence of a number of silks and juniors with experience of public law issues arising from the criminal justice system. Its members appear in courts both at home and abroad including the Supreme Court, the Privy Council and the European Court of Human Rights. They are involved in law setting cases such as R v John Crilly, the historic first quashing of a conviction for murder following the Jogeedecision in the Supreme Court. Edward Fitzgerald QC
An excellent practitioner and pre-eminent figure at the Bar who comes highly recommended by market commentators for his expertise in extradition matters. Fitzgerald is also noted for his international practice. He has considerable expertise in an array of criminal matters, including murder, and is also renowned for his international criminal law expertise. 
Strengths: “Edward has unrivalled experience and is a great strategist.”
Recent work: Acted in Stubbs v The Queen. This was a successful appeal to the Privy Council on bias where a judge who had presided at an aborted trial should have recused himself from sitting on appeal against conviction by the defendants following their conviction on the same charges at a retrial.

Emma Goodall

Isabella Forshall QC
A brilliant silk who is renowned for her handling of complex cases involving homicides, and in particular infanticide. She is also extremely well known for her mastery of substantial sexual offence cases.

Recent work: Acted for Deriece Wright in a case concerning an alleged knife murder by a group of under-18s, mainly care leavers, of another under-18-year-old care leaver.

James Wood QC
A skilled practitioner who is highly sought after for terrorism cases. Committed to both private and publicly funded work, his practice also consists of challenging and complex cases relating to murder and drug offences. He further has experience of handling complex gang-related matters.
Strengths: “Has excellent intellect and gravitas. He’s very good with clients and is taken seriously by judges.”
Recent work: Successfully defended a defendant in a drug-related gangland murder in Liverpool, involving sustained torture, kidnap and extreme violence.

Joel Bennathan QC
A first-rate silk with in-depth experience across all areas of serious crime, who is particularly good at cases with complex legal arguments. He regularly handles appeal cases and is noted for his expertise in terrorism matters. An interviewee described him as a “go-to barrister” for terrorist cases.

Rebecca Trowler QC
