About

Provided by Derayah LLPC

Derayah LLPC, as successor to Hatem Abbas Ghazzawi & Co, has a dispute resolution practice going back to 1978, when Sheikh Abbas Ghazzawi (who at different times was the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Tunisia and Germany) opened his law office in Jeddah, one of the first in the Kingdom.

Over the years, we have provided general commercial dispute resolution services, and have gained specialist expertise in banking disputes, capital market disputes, government contract claims, agencies and distributorships, insolvencies and restructuring, and shipping and insurance claims. Another important part of our practice is providing expert evidence on Saudi Arabian law, including in cases in the UK, Ireland, Singapore, Switzerland and the UAE.

Since we are an independent firm, we are often instructed by other law firms, including firms with Saudi Arabian affiliates when their local offices are conflicted.

Our greatest strength is our team of Saudi Arabian litigators, all of whom are fluent in English. In addition to the core team of seven, we can call on another ten lawyers and paralegals to provide support in major cases.

Saudi Arabia enacted its first comprehensive bankruptcy legislation in 2018. We are currently involved in several bankruptcy proceedings, including the Maan Al Sanea/Saad Trading financial reorganisation procedure involving claims totaling US$ 21 billion.
