About

Provided by Cozen O'Connor

Cozen O’Connor White Collar Defense & Investigations practice group represents individuals, public and private companies, corporate boards, and special committees in a full range of white-collar issues. We provide world-class service in enforcement matters, including FCPA, antitrust, and securities matters, and both internal and government-facing investigations.

Our practice group has a carefully assembled group of attorneys with decades of experience on both the prosecutorial and defense sides. The group includes a former federal public defender and several former U.S. federal and state prosecutors and officials.

The group’s attorneys Barry Boss, Kara Kapp, and Stephen Miller recently negotiated an unprecedented settlement agreement with prosecutors in the Philadelphia U.S. Attorney’s Office on behalf of Laura Varela and 5Dimes, a popular offshore sportsbook in Costa Rica. The case has the potential to revolutionize the U.S. sports-betting industry, as this was the first time an offshore sportsbook voluntarily stopped serving U.S. customers, settled its legal liability with the U.S. Department of Justice, and emerged eligible to participate in the regulated U.S. sports-betting market.

The White Collar Defense & Investigations department has a majority of women in its ranks. A team of the department’s women attorneys, led by Barbara “Biz” Van Gelder, last year represented three witnesses in the historic impeachment proceedings against President Trump.
