Intellectual Property

Our 30-lawyer Texas intellectual property team, based in Houston, represents clients in technology areas, including computer science, electronics, manufacturing, semi-conductors, petroleum services, chemical processing, nanotechnology and biotechnology.

In patent litigation, our team has been lead counsel on more than 100 patent lawsuits in all key jurisdictions, and has won numerous litigation matters across the country and the district courts of Texas. Several of our partners have been appointed to serve as technical advisors for U.S. District Courts.

Regarding inter partes review, we have extensive experience in this growing arena. Through a dedicated practice in this area, we’ve conducted more than 35 inter partes review proceedings.

Most of our intellectual property team has worked together since the 1980s, first working in-house at the computer company, Compaq, for many years, making us sensitive to the budgetary pressures and business issues faced by in-house counsel. We then stayed together through to the formation of the Houston intellectual property boutique firm Wong Cabello in 2001, and then to Blank Rome. So we offer the hands-on, personalized service found in a classic intellectual property boutique mixed with the national resources of a leading AmLaw 100 law firm.

Our work in Houston breaks down roughly between patents (50% of practice activity), copyrights, and trademarks (25%).
