What the team is known for

Ashurst's market-leading national practice is active on many of the country's most high-profile restructurings and turnarounds. Regularly acts for creditors, debtors and insolvency appointees in major restructurings and also demonstrates substantial experience in insolvency litigation. Additionally offers excellent international expertise and has a strong offering in the acquisition of distressed debt in Australia's secondary debt market. Key clients include Boart Longyear, Questas Group and Toll Holdings.

A client reports: "Ashurst has a strong market presence, particularly in relation to restructuring and insolvency. They are recognised as market leaders, have top-tier assignments and client engagements, and provide a quality service offering."

Another client, who places Ashurst among "the top three or four firms we would exclusively use" for restructuring and insolvency matters generally, emphasises in particular its position "at the top end of complex cross-border work," stressing "the footprint they have in the Asia-Pacific region, with people both in Australia and more broadly in Asia, including some very specialised jurisdictions."

Work highlights

Ashurst advised the Ovato Group on the restructuring of its retail print business through an innovative and complex structure of creditors' and members' schemes of arrangement and related transactions.
