Media, technology and IP law firm Wiggin has announced that internationally recognised telecoms expert Gordon Moir has joined the firm as a partner to lead a new telecoms practice, alongside specialist Michaela Lodlová and two additional team members.

Working on complex regulatory and anti-trust investigations and disputes in the UK, EU and elsewhere, the team will further strengthen Wiggin’s existing offering in the telecoms and media space.

Moir joins from Shepherd and Wedderburn where he headed the Telecommunications, Technology and Media Regulatory team, specialising in complex issues relating to market access, regulation of next generation services and net neutrality. Having worked for high-profile industry names and FTSE100 telecoms operators such as BT plc, where he was General Counsel of the retail division and head of the global competition and regulatory teams, Moir brings a wealth of experience.

Lodlová will further bolster the enhanced offering with over 15 years of experience in the telecoms and technology sector, both in private practice and in-house. Notably, Lodlová spent time with Openreach in the UK and with Etisalat, one of the leading operators in the Middle East, where she was part of the core team who recently negotiated regulated access to fixed passive telecommunications infrastructure, increasing competition between the two UAE licensees and fibre roll-out in the country.

John Banister, CEO, Wiggin said: “Adding this new practice is a significant strategic step for us as we pursue our vision to be the destination law firm for a digital world. Gordon and his team have an excellent reputation as the go-to advisors for telecoms businesses and their arrival significantly expands our TMT expertise. We’re excited to have them on board.”

Gordon Moir, Partner, Wiggin said: “Having spent the past 15 years providing strategic advice on numerous cases in the global telecoms sector to some of the world’s biggest carriers and operators, I’m well versed on the industry and the challenges that our clients will encounter. Wiggin holds a strong reputation within the industry and represents a fantastic fit for us and our work as the industry converges and media, telecoms and technology offerings are critical to all, especially in these challenging times. I’m very much looking forward to joining.”
