Senior Associate Lucas Atkin has joined Stone King’s London office and will help run the firm’s information law practice.

Lucas joins Stone King from ITV Studios’ in-house legal team, where he was Privacy Lead. Before that, he was Senior Associate and then Head of Data Privacy at Greenwoods and was an Associate at Bates Wells.

Lucas specialises in data protection and privacy, freedom of information, artificial intelligence and machine learning, online safety, and reputation management.

Throughout his career, Lucas has worked with many different types of clients: charities, companies & corporations, educators, public authorities, political parties, and non-profit / social purpose / philanthropic organisations. Highlights have included advising the Labour Party on the substance of the Forde Report, assisting Oxfam in relation to the Haiti scandal, and advising ITV Studios on its production of Mr Bates v The Post Office.

Of his appointment, Lucas said: “I am delighted and humbled to have been invited to join this community of talented, knowledgeable, and good people. I am extremely enthusiastic about what I have found already and excited to discover what the future holds, together. This is a fantastic opportunity to do good and important work, and one which I intend to grasp with both hands.

"In particular, I am delighted to be able to work again with Melanie Carter and Rosamund McCarthy-Etherington. I enjoyed our time together at Bates Wells very much.”

Melanie Carter, Partner and Head of Public, Regulatory and Information Law, said: “We are delighted to have Lucas at Stone King, and I look forward to working with him again. It is an exciting and important time for information law given the rapid adaptation and implementation of AI technology and the proliferation of modern online harms. This sector is set for significant growth and development and, with Lucas joining the team, Stone King is excellently placed to support and advise our clients”.

Stone King works nationally with offices in Bath, Birmingham, Cambridge, Leeds, London and Manchester. The firm specialises in the Business & Social Enterprise, Charity, Education, Faith, Private Client, and Public & Regulatory Sectors.
