Stikeman Elliott is pleased to announce the election of Marc Barbeau as Chair of the firm. Marc succeeds William Braithwaite, who completed two terms as Chair and will continue with his Toronto-based M&A practice.

Marc Barbeau has built a practice in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and reorganizations, and has led some of the most significant transactions in Canada. He has been recognized for his expertise in this regard. Marc is an Adjunct Professor at McGill’s Faculty of Law and brings this additional perspective to his role as Chair. Marc will continue his practice and role as a partner in the firm’s corporate department in Montréal.

Also appointed to the firm’s management team are new Managing Partners in three Canadian cities: Curtis Cusinato in Toronto, Warren Katz in Montréal and Chrysten Perry in Calgary.

Curtis Cusinato – A partner practicing corporate and securities law. His expertise in cross-border M&A and capital markets transactions has been built over two decades, advising both public and private companies, multinational companies, as well as private equity groups and investment and merchant banks. Curtis’ extensive experience covers a wide range of industries. Curtis will continue his active practice and will assume this new role with Co-Managing Partner, Anne Ristic, who has been in this role since 2016.

Warren Katz – A partner and former Head of the Corporate Group in Montréal, Warren’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and corporate finance. He has extensive experience advising leading public and private companies in connection with acquisitions, divestitures, investments, public offerings and going private transactions. Warren also regularly represents underwriters in public offerings. In addition to his new role as Managing Partner, Warren will continue his active practice.

Chrysten Perry – A Calgary partner and current Co-Head of the national Energy Group, Chrysten has over 30 years’ experience in corporate and commercial law related to energy projects and development and mergers and acquisitions, both in conventional and emerging sectors. She is highly experienced in all aspects of the opportunities and challenges faced by the players in the energy industry. In concert with her new role as Managing Partner, Chrysten will maintain her successful practice in the Calgary market.

Our new team of Managing Partners will join current Managing Partners, Ross MacDonald (Vancouver), and Justine Whitehead (Ottawa); Co-Managing Partner, Anne Ristic (Toronto); and Managing Principals in our international offices, Dean Koumanakos (London) and Kenneth Ottenbreit (New York).
