Hong Kong, 14 May 2018: Boase Cohen & Collins has enhanced its legal links with the UK and China after Senior Partner Colin Cohen attended the Chancery Bar Association’s first ever conference in Shanghai.
The event featured an array of guest speakers from London chambers and attracted legal professionals from across the mainland as well as Hong Kong, the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands, all eager to receive updates on topical issues related to chancery law.
“The Chancery Bar Association had arranged an excellent programme that was international in outlook yet relevant to Chinese law firms. In particular, there was an excellent session on Chinese and English contract law in the context of China’s Belt and Road Initiative,” said Mr Cohen.
“Like any other profession, the legal scene is becoming increasingly global in its outlook and attending conferences such as this is essential both from a networking perspective and to stay abreast of the latest developments in particular practice areas.”
The one-day conference, held at the historic Fairmont Peace Hotel overlooking the Bund, attracted more than 100 delegates and was organised with the support of the Shanghai Bar Association and Shanghai Law Society.
The Chancery Bar Association was established in 1935 and is the oldest specialist bar association in England and Wales. Its members, totalling more than 1,300, are barristers who practise chancery law, offering legal expertise across the spectrum of finance, property and business. The Shanghai event followed the organisation’s successful Hong Kong conference in May last year.
