Sayenko Kharenko’s international trade team, in collaboration with Appleton Luff (Washington, D.C.), represented Promet Steel (Metinvest) in an anti-dumping investigation conducted by Canadian authorities regarding imports of certain concrete reinforcing bars from Bulgaria, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.
In strategic partnership with Appleton Luff, the firm delivered comprehensive legal support across all phases of the investigation, maximising the client’s procedural rights within the Canadian trade defence system. It included strategic guidance on questionnaire submissions to the Canada Border Services Agency, critical analysis of dumping margin calculations. The team strengthened the client’s position by providing targeted counsel throughout the injury proceedings before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, developing compelling responses to injury questionnaires, and representing the client’s commercial interests at formal hearings.

It expands the firm’s experience in Canadian trade defence proceedings and strengthens its credentials in handling sophisticated international trade matters. With this experience, Sayenko Kharenko is now well-positioned to assist clients requiring legal support in Canadian regulatory proceedings, offering practical knowledge of the Canadian system’s procedural nuances and strategic approaches.
