Effective April 3, 2025, the Los Angeles-based trusts and estates litigation firm formerly known as Sacks, Glazier, Franklin & Lodise, LLP is now Sacks, Glazier, Franklin, Lodise, McMurtrey & Scheerer, LLP, recognizing the leadership and significant contributions of Managing Partner Matthew McMurtrey and Partner John Scheerer.

McMurtrey joined the firm in 2001 and became partner in 2012 and Managing Partner in 2014. His practice includes litigation at all levels of California’s judicial system, and he has handled appeals before several districts of the California Court of Appeal, resulting in multiple published appellate decisions. McMurtrey is a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and has held numerous roles with other industry organizations, including as former Chair of the California Lawyer’s Association Trusts and Estates Section Executive Committee (TEXCOM) and Chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Trusts and Estates Law Section Executive Committee. He has been recognized among top awards and rankings, including Chambers and Partners High Net Worth Private Wealth Disputes and Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers, Probate Litigation. McMurtrey obtained his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law.

 

Scheerer joined the firm in 2018 and was elevated to Partner in 2023. He has successfully handled a variety of cases before the Probate Department of the Superior Court as well as appeals in the California Court of Appeal resulting in multiple successful appellate decisions. Scheerer is the current Vice-Chair Professional Responsibility for the American Bar Association Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section (RPTE) and serves on the board for the Beverly Hills Estate Planning Council. He has been named to the list of Best Lawyers and Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Stars for his work in trusts and estates disputes. Scheerer obtained his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law.
