On 8th July 2026, in the grand Reading Room of Law Society Hall, Chancery Lane London, Richard Edwards delivered a lecture to expert witnesses.

The event was organised by Pathway Expert Chambers, a leading set of expert witnesses providing services to lawyers in the serious personal injury and clinical negligence sector.

Others invited to speak at the conference included Grahame Aldous KC, Joanne Easterbrook and Dr Sylvia Taylor-Goh, who covered a broad range of topics to help the expert witnesses in attendance to understand their role in serious injury litigation.

In his session, entitled ‘A pathway to excellence for experts in the injury sector’ Richard set out to persuade attendees that by following three steps expert witnesses could gain the trust of instructing parties and enhance their standing in the field. Richard outlined how his experience over two decades in serious and catastrophic injury litigation had given him insights into how the courts weighed expert evidence, and the most effective way to deploy it for the benefit of his clients.

The first step involved the expert witnesses focussing upon the procedural landscape in which they operate, and ensuring that they had a full appreciation of the demands that this made of them. Secondly, Richard argued that experts should approach the conference with lawyers as an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and understanding of their role. Lastly, experts should carefully approach interactions with instructing parties and proactively manage those relationships. By approaching these three aspects with care, Richard contended that expert witnesses can become trusted, valued and respected by those they deal with.

Richard said, “Law Society Hall is the historic heart of the solicitor’s profession. It was such a great privilege to be invited to speak at this event and to hopefully help the expert witnesses present to develop their practices going forwards.”
