January 16, 2017 – MIAMI – Miami-based global law firm Diaz, Reus & Targ, LLP announces that Partner Marta Colomar-Garcia has been promoted to its newly established administrative managing partner position. She will work with Global Managing Partner Michael Diaz, Jr. and administrative staff, while continuing her practice in international litigation and arbitration.

Dual qualified to practice law in the U.S.—Florida, New York, and the District of Columbia—and Spain, as administrative managing partner Colomar-Garcia will ensure the firm’s services are rendered professionally, ethically, timely, and economically, and comply with applicable federal, state, and local legal requirements. She will oversee policies, procedures, and personnel, and monitor the efficient use and effective operation of the firm’s global infrastructure, including its facilities and telecommunication and computer systems. She will report to the partners on matters of financial performance and client development initiatives.

Colomar-Garcia is best known for handling large, complex cross-border litigation and arbitration matters through parallel proceedings, particularly between parties in the U.S. and Latin America. A Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist, taking on white-collar criminal cases with a focus on Latin American related matters including government investigations, financial crimes, and public corruption, she represents multinational corporations, sovereign governments, and individuals in high-stakes regulatory compliance, complex fraud and asset recovery, international government relations, OFAC counseling and claims, claims under RICO, and appeals and trial support.

She is recognized for obtaining dismissal of a US $1 billion expropriation lawsuit against a Venezuelan government agency under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and acting as plaintiffs’ co-lead counsel defending eight separate class action lawsuits against Argentina’s $100 billion default of sovereign debt in 2001—Seijas v. Republic of Argentina—in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York.

Colomar-Garcia is Martindale-Hubbell peer review AV-rated, a recipient of the Lawyer Monthly Women in Law 2016 Award for International Commercial Litigation and Arbitration Lawyer of the Year, and among Latinvex’s “Top 100 Female Attorneys specializing in Latin America.”
