27 February 2018 – Road Town, Tortola – Law firm O’Neal Webster announces that British Virgin Islands attorney Asha Johnson-Willins has joined the firm as a senior associate. Johnson-Willins brings over 14 years’ experience in advocacy, trials, and company law to O’Neal Webster’s litigation, corporate, and property and business practices.

Johnson-Willins has extensive interlocutory and trial advocacy experience, having appeared at every level of the judicial system, in the Magistrates Court and the High Court through to the Privy Council and before specialist tribunals. She has successfully appeared before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in overturning a decision of the Court of Appeal in an adverse possession claim and regularly appears before the local courts in applications to restore BVI companies to the Register, rectify register of members, appoint liquidators, set aside statutory demands, and in unfair prejudice proceedings.

“Asha’s multifaceted experience is significant and we are delighted to add her talents to our BVI practice,” says Managing Partner Vanessa King, who also heads the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Department. “Her diverse advocacy and trial knowledge increase our ability to serve the needs of our growing client base and expanding litigation team.”

Johnson-Willins expertise in the area of family law is well known and represents family members in contentious and non-contentious divorce and judicial separations and applications for protection orders, custody, maintenance, adoption, and probate. Her experience includes successfully defending the BVI’s first application for a leave to remove in a dispute where the parents of the child had cross-jurisdictional backgrounds. She also successfully established dishonest allegations of abuse used to interfere with parental/child contact.

She brings to the firm her many years of representation in civil disputes including property claims, contract, employment, personal injury, and defamation.

Johnson-Willins is a graduate of the University of Guyana (LLB Hons, 2001) and Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad (2003) and is qualified to practice in Guyana (2003) and the British Virgin Islands (2004). She is a Notary Public and Commissioner of Oaths.

Before joining O’Neal Webster, Johnson-Willins practiced with Samuels Richardson & Co and formerly served as a director of SR Corp, approved by the Financial Services Commission as a Senior Officer.
