On 21 May 2025, the Government of Greenland granted a 30-year exploitation licence to Greenland Anorthosite Mining A/S for the company’s anorthosite project in West Greenland.

This is the first exploitation licence granted under the new rules in the Mining Act of 2024, where Environmental Impact Assessments and Social Impact Assessments are approved subsequent to the exploitation licence being granted.

In December 2024 – February 2025, the company’s draft EIA and SIA were submitted for public consultation and are now awaiting approval by the authorities.

Greenland Anorthosite Mining A/S must submit a mining and closure plan by 31 December 2026. In addition, and Impact Benefit Agreement must be concluded between the company, the municipality (Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq) and Naalakkersuisut prior to commencement of production.

Mining activities must commence no later than 31 December 2028.
