As part of Maples Teesdales’ corporate membership, my colleagues and I recently had the opportunity to attend a site visit of the London Museum in its new location at the old Smithfield Market in Farringdon.
The tour gave a chance to see behind the scenes of the restored site such as the previously hidden vaults and a passing Thameslink train line which have been made into features of the new museum.
The redevelopment project is reported to be costing £437m with Sir Robert McAlpine selected as the construction manager.
The museum is set to officially re-open in 2026 and was recently in the news for securing an additional £50m of funding.
Sharon Ament, director of the London Museum, said: "We are steaming ahead to deliver a transformative, world-leading museum that will be worthy of this great global capital.”
