Leading African law firm Bowmans has expanded its litigation capabilities in Cape Town by appointing well-respected litigation lawyer, Lucien Lewin, as a partner.
Lewin specialises in commercial contract disputes, shareholder and director disputes and matters involving administrative, constitutional, construction and competition law.
Ezra Davids, Bowmans chairman and senior partner, says, ‘During his many years a litigation lawyer, Lucien has successfully handled a number of interesting and high-profile matters. We look forward to the contribution that he will make to Bowmans and our clients in the Cape Town region.’
Lewin, who was admitted in 2010, has worked in the Litigation Department of a large law firm in Johannesburg, as equity partner and head of Litigation at a Cape Town based law firm, and as legal manager and group company secretary of citrus group Capespan.
While at Capespan, Lewin managed local and international litigation – successfully litigating in London on behalf of an Isle of Man-based company within the group – and assisted with the incorporation of new Capespan companies in Chile, Mauritius, Mozambique and South Africa. One of Lewin’s career milestones was acting for a national sports governing body in dealing with historical mismanagement. Another highlight was successfully representing a national fitness group in the renegotiation of rental terms during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Lewin is a University of Cape Town graduate, having obtained an LLB in 2007. This was his second UCT degree: earlier, he completed a BMus in piano and trombone (followed by four years as principal base trombonist at the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra).
