LEXVALOR ABOGADOS announces the creation of the Environmental Law and Sustainability Practice Area, led by Dr. Alegría Corral Jervis.
With a solid background in environmental law, sustainable development, and conservation finance, Alegría has worked with renowned international organizations and on emblematic projects such as the debt-for-conservation swap of the Hermandad Marine Reserve in the Galapagos Islands.
Alegría holds a Doctorate in Jurisprudence with a specialization in climate change, governance, and political leadership. She has worked in the public sector at the Secretariat of Environment of the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito, as a consultant at the National Secretariat for Planning and Development, as an advisor at the Ministry of Strategic Sectors Coordination, and as a legal advisor in the office of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Ecological Transition.
In the private sector, she collaborated for several years with law firms and held managerial positions in non-governmental organizations dedicated to sustainable development. She has also provided consultancy services to international and multilateral organizations, such as the World Bank, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and USAID. Additionally, she has advised major business groups on regulatory development and the preparation of projects and observations regarding the impacts of various legal frameworks to be approved by the National Assembly, with most of her contributions being adopted by legislators.
She was the official delegate and team leader for the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Ecological Transition in the Debt-for-Nature Swap negotiation for the Hermandad Marine Reserve – Galápagos, which concluded successfully in May 2023.
Currently, she focuses on providing legal advisory services in environmental and sustainability matters, with an emphasis on sustainable financial tools and sustainability strategies for the private sector.
