To implement the Master Plan on Building China into a Leading Country in Education (2024-2035) and effectively promote cooperation between Shanghai and Hong Kong, HKUST established the Shanghai Industry-Education Integration Center (the "HKUST Shanghai Center"). This center fully leverages the innovation and entrepreneurship advantages of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (“HKUST”) in disciplines such as chips, artificial intelligence and biomedicine. On January 22, 2025, the unveiling ceremony of the HKUST Shanghai Center was held at the Shanghai AI Tower in the West Bund of the Xuhui District. 

The ceremony was jointly organized by the People's Government of Xuhui District, the HKUST and the Caohejing Hi-Tech Park Development Corporation. 

Many leading dignitaries attended the unveiling ceremony including Shanghai Vice-Mayor Xie Dong, HKUST Council Chairman Harry SHUM Heung-Yeung, HKUST President Nancy IP Yuk-Yu, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Municipal Government Wang Ping and Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education Chen Dali. Also in attendance were President of Tongji University Zheng Qinghua, President of East China Normal University Qian Xuhong, Party Secretary of ShanghaiTech University Li Ruxin, Director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education Zhou Yaming and Secretary of the CPC Xuhui District Committee Cao Liqiang. Deputy Secretary of the CPC Xuhui District Committee and District Mayor Wang Hua, Party Secretary and Chairman of Lingang Group Yu Yong, HKUST Provost Guo Yike, Honorary Chairman of the HKUST Advisory Committee LO Ka Shui, Treasurer of the HKUST Council Stephen YIU Kin-Wah were in attendance as well as Party Secretary and Chairman of Shanghai State-owned Capital Investment Co., Ltd. Yuan Guohua, and Deputy Party Secretary and President of Lingang Group Weng Kaining. Xie Dong and Shen Xiangyang delivered speeches and Nancy IP Yuk-Yu introduced the HKUST Shanghai Center development plan.
