JunHe Advises China Baowu and its Four Subsidiaries on Their ISO 37301 Certification

In June 2023, JunHe was engaged by China Baowu Steel Group Corporation Limited (“Baowu Group”) and its four subsidiaries Shanghai Baosteel Packaging Co., Ltd., Baowu Group Finance Co., Ltd., Baowu Resources Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Baosight Software Co., Ltd. to provide guidance for their certification to ISO 37301. In December 2023, these companies became GB/T 35770-2022 and ISO 37301:2021 certified and obtained the corresponding certificates issued by the British Standards Institution (BSI).

Baowu Group, headquartered in Shanghai, is a state-owned enterprise under the direct management of the Chinese central government. In 2022, it had total assets of RMB 1.32 trillion and 262,300 employees, with a steel production of 130 million tons and a total operating income of RMB 1.2 trillion. In 2023, Baowu Group was ranked 44th on the Fortune Global 500 list and topped other steel companies in the world. Baowu Group attaches great importance to legal affairs and compliance and the successful certification of these pilot enterprises indicates that their compliance management systems meet the latest international compliance management standards.

Acting as the legal counsel to the five companies, JunHe coordinated and participated in the survey on the status of their compliance management, conducted compliance obligation and risk identification and analysis, designed the organizational compliance structure, and established the corporate compliance culture/codes of conduct. JunHe’s team also assisted with the analysis and improvement of the compliance management systems, provided compliance training, and assisted Baowu Group in carrying out the internal audit, the management review and the performance improvements that had to be completed prior to the ISO 37301 certification.

Given the large scale, tight schedule and strict confidentiality requirements of this project, JunHe’s team responded quickly and provided high-quality work. By working closely with the other parties and leveraging their own extensive experience and solid expertise, JunHe’s team helped Baowu Group to be certified successfully.
