Deutsche ReGas GmbH & Co. KGaA has put the LNG regasification terminal "Deutsche Ostsee" at the Lubmin port into operation. The project includes in particular a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) and other related infrastructure. The terminal is the first and so far only fully privately financed liquefied natural gas terminal in Germany. The State authority StALU VP issued the permit to operate the FSRU under the Federal Emission Control Act on 14 January 2023. German regulator Bundesnetzagentur had exempted the LNG terminal from regulation on 12 January 2023 with the European Commission's consent for a period of 20 years from commercial launch.
Hengeler Mueller advises Deutsche ReGas comprehensively on the project, including the permit and regulatory procedures for the LNG terminal, on the financing of the company as well as on operational contracts.
