GLADE MICHEL WIRTZ advises Vion Food Group (Vion), a leading international producer of meat, meat products and plant-based alternatives, comprehensively on the sale of the two sites Waldkraiburg and Crailsheim.
As part of its strategic realignment Vion Food Group has initiated the sale of the two sites in Southern Germany. The Crailsheim site, where approx. one million pigs and 95,000 cattle are slaughtered per year, shall be transferred to Boeser Frischfleisch GmbH. For the Waldkraiburg site with 163,000 annual slaughters of cattle a transfer to the US-American OSI Group is envisaged. The corresponding agreements have been signed last Friday, 17 April 2026. The negotiations regarding further sites are ongoing.
The planned transactions are part of the stronger focus on the Benelux region. GLADE MICHEL WIRTZ has already advised comprehensively on this strategic realignment during the last two years, recently also on the sale of shares in the Vilshofen and Landshut sites to the Erzeugergemeinschaft Südbayern (EG Südbayern) as well as the sale of the North German sites to inter alia PFG Group.
“Crailsheim and Waldkraiburg are both important sites for employees, farmers and customers in their regions. Our priority is to secure a stable and long-term future for these locations. Experienced partners who bring strong market access and industrial expertise are the best strategic fit and we are confident that both sites can continue to develop successfully and remain reliable partners for the regional livestock supply chain,” says Tjarda Klimp, CEO of Vion Food Group.
Vion Food Group is an international food producer with production sites in the Netherlands and Germany and sales offices in several countries worldwide. In 2024 Vion achieved with 8,383 employees a turnover of EUR 4.6 billion.
