Francisco López Díaz, former Undersecretary of Energy, has been promoted to partner at Jara Del Favero Abogados, after leading the firm’s Energy practice as Director for the past two years.
His experience and deep understanding of the market have enabled Francisco to successfully navigate the major challenges and complexities of the energy sector, with a strong focus on regulatory and market-related issues. He has strengthened JDF’s Energy and Regulatory practice areas, supporting clients across a wide range of industries—whether as direct or indirect actors in the electric power generation, transmission, and distribution segments, or as end consumers. Francisco has also provided specialized advice on diverse projects, including energy generation, green hydrogen, fuel transport and distribution, energy efficiency, and certification matters. Additionally, he has participated in proceedings before the Panel of Experts and advised on electrical concessions, feasibility studies, and other key processes in the sector.
Francisco López holds a law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, an LL.M. from the Pritzker School of Law at Northwestern University, and a Certificate in Business Administration from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
Francisco's distinguished professional career also includes several roles in the public sector. During President Sebastián Piñera’s first term, he served as advisor to the Director of the Budget Office at the Ministry of Finance. In Piñera’s second term, he served as Chief of Staff and Health Policy Coordinator at the Ministry of Public Works, and later as Undersecretary of Energy for nearly three years.
“The energy sector, both in Chile and globally, is a strategic pillar for sustainable development. In our country, it stands out as one of the sectors with the highest investment levels and continues to show an upward trend. Factors such as future energy demand, the energy transition, urban electrification, electromobility, and the promotion of green hydrogen development, among others, suggest an environment where investment will keep growing in the years ahead. However, this is occurring in an increasingly complex regulatory context, with growing challenges for project development,” noted Francisco López.
In his new role as partner, he will continue strengthening the Energy practice, building on past successes and developing timely strategies aligned with current regulatory requirements and industry demands.
