The award of the concession for the modernization of Puerto Caldera marks a milestone for Costa Rica’s logistics infrastructure. Considered one of the most important public projects currently being undertaken by the country and the first major port concession awarded since the development of the Moín Container Terminal, this initiative will help strengthen the competitiveness of foreign trade and the operational capacity of Costa Rica’s main Pacific port.
In this transaction, Consortium Legal advised APM Terminals, as a member of the Sunset Consortium, the successful bidder for the concession awarded by the Costa Rican Institute of Pacific Ports (INCOP).
The project involves an investment of more than US$500 million and the provision of strategic port services over the next 30 years, establishing itself as one of the most significant infrastructure initiatives for Costa Rica’s economic and logistical development.
“The modernization of Puerto Caldera represents a transformative project for the country and a decisive step toward strengthening its logistical competitiveness. Having supported APM Terminals throughout this process reaffirms Consortium Legal’s expertise in concessions, public procurement, and highly complex infrastructure projects, as well as our ability to advise international investors and operators on strategic initiatives for Central America’s development," said Rolando Laclé Zúñiga, president of Consortium Legal.
Consortium Legal’s involvement in this award reaffirms the firm’s commitment to supporting domestic and international clients in projects that drive strategic infrastructure development, attract investment, and foster sustainable growth in the region.
