- In May 2017 Lewis Baglietto QC appeared with Charles Bonfante before the Court of Justice of the European Union in a case involving the applicability of certain provisions of the Firearms Directive to Gibraltar, where the extent of Gibraltar's exclusion from the EU Treaty provisions on free movement of goods was considered. The Court has reserved its judgment. The case is the first (and possibly the last) to be referred to the CJEU for a preliminary ruling since Gibraltar became part of the EEC in 1973.
