BLOMSTEIN is becoming (even) more international: On 1 October 2025, we are expanding our European presence and will open an office in Brussels. With BLOMSTEIN already being strongly connected across Europe and globally, the new Brussels office marks the natural next step in our international footprint and strengthens our proximity to European institutions.
The team setting up our new office will be spearheaded by Elisa Hauch and Leonard von Rummel, who both have a strong international profile and many years of EU legal advisory experience.
“Brussels is an organic next step for us,” says Leonard von Rummel, partner in our International Trade and National Security Practice. “EU regulatory advice forms a core part of our business. With our new office, we can support our clients even more directly on EU-related matters and will be even closer to the institutions.”
Leonard von Rummel advises on international trade law, in particular foreign direct investment, export control, customs law, and anti-dumping. He played a key role in shaping BLOMSTEIN’s National Security Practice in recent years and will now regularly spend a fair amount of his time on site in Brussels.
Elisa Hauch, Counsel and competition law expert, knows the Brussels landscape inside out and has a strong local network: She spent several years at the Brussels office of Sullivan & Cromwell, later joined Amazon Music as in-house counsel, and became part of the BLOMSTEIN team in 2023. “European and German competition law are cornerstones of our advisory practice for our international client base. With our new Brussels office, we are now even closer to the European Commission, to decision-making-processes, and to the issues that matter most to our clients. Personally, I am very much looking forward to working regularly in Brussels again – a place I called my professional home for over five years and that remains the heart of the European competition law community.”
Elisa and Leonard will be supported by the wider BLOMSTEIN team who already comes to Brussels regularly and will contribute to establishing the office – not only through advisory work but also through BLOMSTEIN-hosted events and, in the medium term, through local hires.
The Brussels office is part of our broader international strategy. We advise global companies and governments in our core practices – from complex antitrust and competition matters, EU procurement law, the Foreign Subsidies Regulation, and ESG legislation to international trade law and trade defence.
“Our focus has always been European and global – because our areas of expertise are,” says Anna Blume Huttenlauch, partner in our competition law practice “With our new office in Brussels, we are making it even more visible that we are on the ground and support our clients where the course is set. Especially in light of the current geopolitical developments, we believe it is more important than ever to commit to a clear European identity.”
BLOMSTEIN maintains a strong global network and is actively involved in international associations such as the CELIS Institute and multinational legal and business organisations. Apart from our Berlin office, we operate a Legal Hub in Lisbon and a LatAm Desk consisting of a team of five lawyers.
“We aim to further expand our support for clients in Latin America through strengthening our local presence,” says Roland M. Stein, partner in our International Trade and National Security Practice. “Our very active Brazil practice provides an ideal platform for this.”
It all comes full circle: Brussels marks the latest milestone in our firm’s international growth journey.
