Beccar Varela announces the incorporation of Florencia Heredia and Agostina Martínez as new partners of the firm, as part of the strengthening of its Natural Resources: Mining practice. The addition of Heredia and Martínez—professionals recognized both locally and internationally in natural resources law, particularly in mining—represents a strategic step in consolidating the firm’s position in a key industry for Argentina’s development.
Florencia Heredia has over 35 years of experience advising companies and financial institutions on major mining project financings in Argentina. She has been involved in all of the most significant transactions in the sector and is widely recognized for her leadership and international expertise in natural resources and sustainability. She will now lead the firm’s Mining practice.
She is an active member of the International Bar Association, where she served as Chair of the Section of Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law (2022–2024), having previously served as Chair of the Mining Law Committee, and currently sits on the Management Board representing the Legal Practice Division. She also holds and has held key roles at The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy (formerly the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation) and on international boards of companies in the sector. She has been recognized by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 as a leading practitioner for more than 20 years, as well as Mining Lawyer of the Year by Lexology (formerly Who’s Who Legal) for over a decade and received the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from Lexology Index in London.
Florencia is also actively involved in academic fora and universities, serving as a visiting professor at the University of Denver and the University of Dundee, as well as at the Universidad Católica Argentina and the Universidad Católica de Cuyo, and as a member of the Academic Council of the Law School at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.
Florencia was a partner at Allende & Brea and previously founder of Holt Abogados. Prior, she was a member of Beccar Varela for 16 years, where she led the Natural Resources and Environmental Law department. She holds a law degree from Universidad Católica Argentina (Faustino Legón Award) and a master’s degree in business law from Universidad Austral, among other specializations. She also obtained a Corporate Governance certification from INSEAD Business School, Fontainebleau, France, in 2026.
Agostina Martínez has more than 12 years of experience advising on natural resources law, with a focus on mining. She has participated in structuring complex transactions in the sector, combining strong academic training with hands-on experience at both local and international levels, having worked closely with Florencia Heredia for the past nine years. She has been recognized by Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners in Energy & Natural Resources: Mining.
Previously, she worked as a senior associate at Allende & Brea and was part of the Energy and Natural Resources team at Marval, O’Farrell, Mairal. She holds a law degree from Universidad Católica de Cuyo and an LL.M. in Mineral Law and Policy from the University of Dundee (UK).
Milagros Pieroni also joins as a senior associate, bringing experience in mining and environmental law, ESG and sustainability, in both the public and private sectors.
Maximiliano D’Auro, Managing Partner of Beccar Varela, stated: “The addition of Florencia, a recognized international leader, is aligned with our strategic objective of continuing to develop our Mining practice alongside a top-tier team, serving our clients with excellence and the highest standards of professional ethics. Her track record, leadership, and market recognition are key differentiators that will enhance our value proposition in the industry. Agostina’s arrival, having worked with Florencia for many years, further strengthens the team’s consistency and depth. Together with our Energy practice (Power and Oil & Gas), we now have one of the most solid and comprehensive integrated Natural Resources and Energy practices in the market.”
Florencia Heredia added: “It is a great joy and an honor to return to Beccar Varela and to lead the Mining practice in the context of the development of natural resources in the country and at this key stage of the global energy transition. There is a significant opportunity to support this new phase of growth in Argentina’s industry, and we look forward to contributing a strategic, integrated approach grounded in a more holistic and ethical vision of natural resources development.”
Agostina Martínez said: “I am very pleased to join Beccar Varela and to continue working alongside Florencia in this new stage. It is an honor to be part of a leading full-service law firm recognized for its trajectory and innovative approach.”
Florencia and Agostina strengthen the firm’s Natural Resources practice, with a particular focus on Mining, joining a team that includes the expertise of partners Alejandro Poletto in M&A, Manuel Frávega in Environmental Law, Climate Change and ESG, and Juan Pablo Perrino in Public Law.
Beccar Varela thus reinforces its Mining practice and, in coordination and synergy with its Energy areas, consolidates one of the most solid and comprehensive integrated Natural Resources, Mining and Energy practices in the market, providing clients with full-service advice in a rapidly expanding sector.
