AZA Partner Monica Uddin Honored with Premier Women in the Law Award
HOUSTON - AZA partner Monica Uddin was honored by the Association of Women Attorneys Foundation (AWAF) with a Premier Women in the Law Award at a March 31 celebratory luncheon.
The AWAF is a charitable group that honors exceptional women lawyers and funds scholarships and fellowships for outstanding Houston law students. Award winners are chosen for their contributions to the Houston legal community through professional achievement and community involvement, and for playing an active role in advancing other women in the law.
Ms. Uddin was cited “as a fierce advocate for your clients, thoughtful leader within AZA, action-oriented champion across multiple social and community fronts, and your perseverance balancing the demands of those roles while raising a family.”
Ms. Uddin is a trial lawyer and the hiring partner at AZA. Her nomination included examples of her courtroom prowess, her community activism and her diligent work to further the careers of other women.
Her professional excellence was recently recognized when she was one of only 240 lawyers nationwide named to the BTI Client Service All-Stars in 2025. That list is compiled through a survey of corporate counsel and those who regularly use top-drawer legal services. As one of the surveyed clients told BTI, “Monica has a great strategic mind and is playing chess when others are playing checkers.”
She has been recognized annually as a Texas Rising Star and then as a Texas Super Lawyer in business litigation, by The Best Lawyers in America as “One to Watch” and by Lawdragon as one of the 500 Leading Litigators in America. She is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a board member of the South Asian Bar Association of Houston.
For the last three years, she has served as co-chair of the Houston Bar Association’s Gender Fairness Committee. She led the committee’s effort to form a new Women in the Law section of the local bar, the purpose of which is to “examine issues related to women in the legal profession, including gender fairness,” by developing “programming and promoting awareness of these issues, including through CLEs and mentoring opportunities.” She will serve as the membership vice-chair of that new section.
The AWAF Premier Women in the Law luncheon was held at the Hilton Americas hotel.
