Alston & Bird has deepened its structured and warehouse finance capabilities with the addition of a three-lawyer team from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP.

Joining the firm’s New York office are partners Joseph Gambino and Peter Williams, who have worked together as a team for nearly 10 years and have extensive experience in the post-crisis market for collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) and other structured products.

Also arriving as part of their team is associate Elizabeth Walker, who focuses her practice on structured finance transactions, with an emphasis on CLOs.

“Joe and Pete are CLO all-stars who have worked in a first-chair capacity for an A-list of Wall Street banks and other global financial institutions,” said Shanell Cramer, Alston & Bird partner and co-head of the firm’s Finance Group. “They are former colleagues of mine and outstanding attorneys whose talent and reputation reinforce the support we offer our structured finance clients and further position us as a top destination for highly innovative and complex transactions.”

Gambino and Williams advise sell- and buy-side institutional clients on transactional and regulatory matters related to CLOs, securities repackagings, and other credit-linked products.

Gambino has worked in structured credit for over 20 years and currently focuses his practice on structured credit products, with an emphasis on CLOs backed by pools of broadly syndicated and middle market loans and structured credit vehicles backed by corporate bonds and other assets. He also has advised clients in structuring finance facilities backed by a variety of assets and in developing, negotiating, and documenting financial instruments backed by derivatives and insurance-linked products.

Williams has worked in structured credit for nearly 20 years, and his current practice encompasses a variety of complex financial transactions, with an emphasis on CLOs and other structures that utilize securitization techniques. He also has advised financial institution counterparties on derivatives and insurance-linked products.

“Joe and Pete serve an elite group of leading national and global financial institutions that in many instances are also our clients,” said James Sullivan, partner in charge of Alston & Bird’s New York office. “Their arrival fills a strong client need for sophisticated CLO expertise and reinforces our commitment to add top talent to meet client demand not only in structured and warehouse finance but also related areas such as corporate debt, commercial real estate lending, and other finance and transactional services where we have market-leading practices.”

Gambino and Williams are the most recent additions to Alston & Bird’s global finance capabilities. Earlier this year, the firm added London partner James Fisher, who advises corporate trust and agency clients and others across a broad range of debt capital markets transactions. In August, it added another London partner, Paul Morris, who represents clients in high-value finance disputes.
