In January, a pilot deposit scheme was launched in Sosnowiec and will operate in the Śląsk and Opole voivodships. Ten vending machines that exchange plastic bottles and aluminium cans for shopping vouchers were installed in selected Carrefour Polska shops in Sosnowiec, Rybnik, Kędzierzyn Koźle, Jastrzębie Zdrój, Jaworzno, Chorzów, Gliwice, Katowice, Pszczyna and Zabrze. The co-initiator of the campaign is our client, EKO-Punkt Organizacja Odzyskiwania Opakowań S.A.
The procedure is simple: for every clean, uncrushed pack with a visible barcode inserted into the bottle machine, the customer will receive a 15 groszy e-voucher to be used for purchases in Carrefour shops. The voucher is valid until the end of that day. The packaging collected in the machines will be sent for recycling and after treatment some will be returned to the shelves.
The Eko-Punkt pilot scheme pre-empts planned legislation announced by the Ministry of Climate and the Environment to introduce a new deposit system in Poland.
Lawyers from DZP's environmental team – Daniel Chojnacki, Partner, Maciej Białek, Senior Associate, and Klaudia Skubiszak, Associate – advised the client on refining the system assumptions and defining the terms and conditions for the cooperation between the entities involved.
