Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Internal reporting

Understanding our demographics

We track demographic changes in our employee base twice a year, ever since our initial Internal Demographic Survey in 2022. This enables us to understand patterns and trends. We also analyse data for leavers, across teams and by seniority.

The data reveals steady advancement on several fronts. Particular progress has been made in the level of ethnic minority staff (up from 19% in 2019 to 37% in 2023) and employees who attended a state school (up from 58% to 69%).

Policy changes

Building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organisation

At Chambers, we believe building a truly diverse, equitable and inclusive organisation is an ongoing effort. It doesn’t only involve formal stakeholders such as our DEI, People team and Executive Leadership teams; it also means creating an inclusive culture which every colleague contributes to.

To uphold DEI in the workplace, we know it’s crucial to have carefully considered processes that support our employees. That’s why we consistently review, update and amend our internal policies and procedures to ensure they are up to date with DEI best practice.

Over the last few years, we have instituted several policies to better support our colleagues. These build on our other DEI-related policies and codes, which include an organisational DEI statement, an inclusive Dress Code and policies on Flexible Working, Shared Parental and Adoption Leave, and Harassment.

Personal disclosure

Our Personal Disclosure policy helps individuals who identify as neurodivergent, have a hidden disability or live with a long-term mental health condition to disclose this to the organisation.

Transitioning at work

We have a dedicated Transitioning at Work policy for individuals who are transitioning gender while working at Chambers.

Performance appraisal

We have made adaptations to our performance appraisal system to enhance inclusivity for neurodivergent individuals.

Parental policy language

We have updated the language on all our parent-related policies, recognising primary and secondary caregivers as well as mothers and fathers.
